McCool Media Blast

McCool Media Blast

Our school decided to spend time advertising our quest for the Green Ribbon.  We began with information about the Green Ribbon. Then we went into what different groups were doing.  Each week we ran 1 TV ad for two days on our school Network - Seahawk News.  We also have a special column in the parent newsletter that goes out every other Friday.  We will continuing this for the remainder of the year.  After we have finished raising awareness of everything we are doing, we will move into individual groups taking the weekly spot.  The nurse will be advertising weekly healthy tips and the 8th grade science students will find "green facts" to share.

Today we are going to tell you about a program being started at McCool called the Green Ribbon Program.  This program is set up so our school can earn a green ribbon for caring about the environment and for caring about ourselves.  To earn a green ribbon, a school needs to work together to make the school a healthy place to be.  We already have healthy lunches served to us by our very own McCool cafeteria!  Yeah!  And we have after school sports and PE classes to help us stay in great shape.  YEAH!  But there are some other things we are doing that you may not know about.  Over the next few weeks we will tell you about them.  If you want to be involved, we will also tell you the teacher or group in charge so you can talk to them.

Today I would like to talk about what the 8th grade team is doing.  Dr. Gonzales (Mrs.) is helping to make McCool earth friendly by sponsoring recycling.  She and the 8th grade students collect plastic bottles and aluminum cans.  You can see the recycle bins they have set up in the hallways.  Now her team is starting to collect old phonebooks.  All of these items can be recycled or reused.  This helps us because we are practicing using our resources wisely.

So when you see Mrs. Gonzales in the hall – give her a nice shout out for being so cool to the environment.  Thanks Dr. G!!!

It’s time for our Green Ribbon Program Update.  Last week we explained that our school can earn a green ribbon for caring about the environment and for caring about ourselves.  To earn a green ribbon, a school needs to work together to make the school a healthy place to be.

Today I would like to talk about what the Mrs. Tuquero and Mrs. Atoigue are doing. They have teamed up to study the wetland environment. They go on a walking fieldtrip once a month to study the wetlands.  Last week they collected soil samples and compared them to see what kind of creatures live there and why. They will be looking at how and why the wetlands are important to our island and to the creatures that live there.  So when you see Mrs. Tuquero or Mrs. Atoigue in the hall – give them a nice shout out for being so cool to the environment.  Thanks Teachers!!!!
