Kramer Colts Recycle
By:
WHAT: In coordination with a DallasISD initiative toward waste reduction, Kramer Elementary is encouraging all students and staff members to be Earth friendly by recycling. This in turn reduces our trash collection and keeps our landfills free of recyclable items.
WHEN: Each and every day, students and staff members throw recyclables in blue bins that are located throughout the campus.
WHERE: Every classroom at Kramer has blue bins for recycle items only. There are two large blue bins located in each main hallway to use for overflow, if needed, before collection day.
HOW: Students are asked to throw the following items in the blue bins: notebook paper, spiral notebooks, construction paper, butcher paper, old drawings, newspapers, magazines, empty water bottles and empty soda cans.
Students know that we cannot recycle used kleenix, paper towels, papers with paint, plastic grocery bags, ziplock baggies or anything that has touched food. Loads that are contaminated by these products cannot be salvaged.
Students are taught about all other items that can be recycled like glass, styrofoam, tin cans, etc. They are encouraged to recycle at home.
COLLECTION: All bins throughout the school are emptied every Wednesday by the GREEN TEAM. The GREEN TEAM is made up of students in 4A, 4C, 5A, and 5C. They collect all of the recycling, bag it and take the bags to the large recycling bin for collection by our district truck.
WHY: The planet's populace is growing, and our supply of natural resources is shrinking. To assure that future generations have natural resources and a clean healthy environment in which to live, it is in our best interest to take care of the planet now. We also want to teach our students to be stewards of our planet and make recycling a lifelong habit.
