To promote reducing the waste stream that traditionally goes to landfills, New Horizon School encourages a variety of recycling activities throughout our school facility. One such activity is the collection of Capri Sun and Kool-Aid juice pouches that takes place at our Lower School.
Under the direction of Mr. Radford, the first grade classroom serves as the collection site for Capri Sun and Kool-Aid juice pouches. Once collected, these used aluminum based drink pouches are then boxed and sent to a company called Terracycle. They are then either “up-cycled” (remade into a new product) or completely recycled.
Terracycle collects many “non-recyclable” items which are made into products to be sold such as pencil pouches, lunch boxes, and backpacks.
To date, we have sent 6,928 drink pouches to Terracycle and continue to collect more every day.
