Jen's BIG Adventure!
By:
Names: Natalie C., Emma H., & James B.
Target Audience: We would like to reach teens in junior high and high school.
Lesson: Breakfast is an important meal which many students skip. After not eating for nearly twelve hours, we need the nutrients that a healthy breakfast provides to help us stay attentive during class, get us through the day and give us extra energy for our extracurricular activities. A healthy breakfast provides protein and fiber, which is found in eggs, toast, or fruit. Although meats like bacon or sausage are tasty and a great source of protein, they have high levels of saturated fat and sodium. Although you do need some sodium for fluid balance, muscle strength, and nerve function, too much can cause your blood pressure to go up. Even a glass of V8 could be too much sodium. So grab a cup of yogurt or scramble some eggs instead of the doughnuts on the way to school. Your body will thank you later when you’re the only nonfat old person.
Story: Jen is an unhealthy junior high student. She skips breakfast every day. Jen’s tennis coach has told her she needs to pull up her grades and get into better shape if she wants to remain on the team. Help Jen get the fruits and vegetables she needs so she can have high energy to get through the day, and to stay more focused!
Objectives/Goals: Get Jen to the end of each level so she can stay on the tennis team! If she runs into too much junk food, she’ll be kicked off!
