The fight against obesity

By:

Story: Skinny Jenny needs your help to fight Obesity. She needs to eat right, stay active, and avoid any unhealthy foods that can harm her.

Objective: Skinny Jenny needs to collect all of the healthy foods, avoid the unhealthy foods, and get to the goal.

Team: Josh, Ash, Michael

Target Audience:  6th grade and up

Lesson: Obesity is an excess portion of body fat. Obesity occurs when a person consumes more calories than they can burn. Eating right and being active can help to fight against obesity. Eating different fruits and vegetables can help to lose weight, but too much healthy food can be a bad thing. Being physically active can help to burn calories. Physically active people have to burn more calories than people who are not physically active. Physical activity decreases appetite in obese individuals and increases the body’s ability to metabolize fat as an energy source. Although it’s not common, some illnesses can cause obesity. These can include hormone problems such as hypothyroidism (poorly acting thyroid that slows down metabolism), depression, and some diseases that can cause the brain to overheat. There all also some medications that can cause obesity. These can be steroids and some antidepressants.
