Sky Ranch Outdoor Education
Every year the fifth grade scholars go to Sky Ranch to experience outdoor education. We stay for 3 fun filled learning days. When we arrive, we go to our cabins, unpack, and get ready to learn. We participate in Limnology which is the study of water. Scholars use the scientific method to learn if Sky Pond is healthy, they test water quality, and go “fishing” to practice measuring. That evening we go to Night at the Livery and eat a bar-b-que dinner, play games and have a calf scramble. Then it’s off to bed to rest up for the next day’s activities.
The next day, we attend Forces of Nature where we learn how to build rockets, stroll through the woods to discuss weathering and erosion, and learn how to speed up or slow down the teachers who are zipping down the zip line. After lunch, it’s off to Ranch Life. Here we learn about different animals at the petting area, learn about organic gardening, participate in a food chain game, and get to ride a horse.
The last day we are there, we attend Sky Ranch Expeditions. In this class we see a variety of animals and learn what they eat, their adaptations, niches, and their habitats. There is even a place to learn how soil is made.
