Field Day

By:

In addition to learning about plants and various creatures in our school garden, we felt it was important for our students to learn about one of Los Angeles' greatest wilderness parks, Griffith Park. To help us do that, Ranger Ernie came to our school to talk to our Mitchell kids about the different flora and fauna that exists at the park and in the Los Angeles area. Ranger Ernie also spent time reminding the students to respect their garden and respect public parks; to follow the designated rules, stay on the paths and never pick anything without permission. Our Mitchell gardeners confirmed that Ranger Ernie rules also applied to their school garden. After Ranger Ernie's talk, many of our students hoped one day, they might get the opportunity to explore Griffith Park and see firsthand the animals and trees shared by Ranger Ernie.
