A Lifetime of Fitness!

Greenbriar Elementary has a running club so that our students can stay healthy. We also have a running club so we can keep our students active at home and at school. We don’t want our students to feel uncomfortable about themselves. Running is an activity that you can do for a lifetime, that is also keeps you fit and trim!
When we are getting ready for a race we usually practice in the mornings so that we can get use to running. We want to get use to running because when we run the 5K we don’t want to lose our breath, get dehydrated, or faint. Our coach usually gives us pedometers so that we can see how many steps we take while we are practicing. When we practice with the pedometers, the kids would practice by racing and playing tag. We do this in order to have fun and not over do it. If we over do it we might get sick if you haven’t run before at all. You have to get use to it.
Right before a race you have to eat and drink right. You can eat a banana (for potassium ) which your muscles need, and you can drink plenty of water so that you don’t get dehydrated. You may also want to do some stretches to loosen up your muscles.
The main focus of running club is to encourage students to be healthy. Some students come to Greenbriar that have diabetes or they are over-weight. In the running club our students can be strong and healthy by learning to exercise and eat right.
