Students Learn about Plant and Animal Life Cycles
By:
Students learned about plant and animal life cycles through a variety of projects. They learned about and cared for classroom animals including fish, a hamster, and a bird. Art activities and guided drawing sharpened their observation skills. They learned about the different animals' natural habitats and discussed differences in body types comparing body parts of fish to mammals and birds. Students in 2 - 4th grades observed beans sprouting and growing. They learned that plants need light, water, and good soil and should not be too crowded when they grow. They charted the growth on graphs and compared their resuilts discussing variations in growth patterns observed. This year students also observed silkworms and learned about their life cycles and production and uses of silk. They charted the silkworms' growth and were able to see the progression of the life cycle of this insect.
