^6th Grade field trip- Animal Kingdom
By:
The sixth grade curriculum in science is Earth Science. Because of the conservation efforts supported by Animal Kingdom, we thoutht this would be a wonderful opportuniity to allow the students to explore the animals and ecosystems of other countries they might not have the opportunity to enjoy otherwise.
All students were required to experience the Kilimanjaro Safari ride. During the ride, the guide discusses the issue of poaching and how several of the animals they hold in capitity are extinct in the wild.
Another favorite attraction was the Conservation Station where students enjoyed llive animal encounters and interactive exhibits highlighting the Animal Kingdom efforts toward the conservation of animal habitats and the veterinary care of animals being rehabilitated in capitivity. Students make the connetion that conservation starts at home and at school where we suport and promote efforts to reduce our impact on local landfills.
The flights of Wonder show highlights the success of the conservation efforts of our own American Bald Eagle.
The Affection Section afforded students a hands-on experience with rare, domesticated breeds of animals from throughout the world. They appreciate the gravity of this exhibit, as they learn about the historical impact of the domesticated animal on the human population through their study of World History.
