hosted our biggest LEAST-WASTE EVENT ever!

By:

Our school carnival, our biggest schoolwide event of the year, produced only 2 small grocery bags of landfill waste. Due to the careful planning of carnival organizers and the participation of students and families, virtually all waste was composted and recycled using compost bins from Texas Disposal Systems and recycling bins that we purchased with Keep Austin Beautiful award money. Instead of bottled water, we provided paper cups and donated water from local business Cielo and root beer on draft from Maine Root. Food was served in paper. The most waste was produced by the plastic wrappers of carnival prizes and baked goods that families donated.
