7th Grade Students Save Water and Energy

By:

For the 2012 "Go Green" Science Fair, Seventh Grade students from St. Paul Interparochial School researched ways to save water and energy at home.  They researched energy and water saving advice from experts and developed testable hypotheses.  The students recorded regular water and enery usage for one week and then applied conservation techniques for a second week.  They calculated their individual savings and communicated their results using PowerPoint presentations and video.  They saved presentation boards, paper, ink, and tape by creating electronic presentations.

The experiment saved a total of 3,523 kwh of electricity and 410 cubic feet of water.  In addition, the courtyard garden rain barrel saved 60 gallons of water during the Spring planting season.  This energy and water savings is in addition to the 504 pieces of paper, 1/2 ink cartrdige, printer electricity, 130 presentation boards, and 12 rolls of masking taped saved during the Science Fair by going "paperless."
