Project: Rebuilding Our Garden
Goal/purpose of the project: To rebuild our 12 year old garden to make it ideal for planting, tending and harvesting flowers, fruits and vegetables. It will also be used to extend reading, math, science, art and physical education lessons.

Energy
Project: Be Wise, Save the Light, Be an Energy Hero
Goal/purpose of the project: To raise awareness of how much electricity we use and how much we really need. A Lights Off campaign will help students and teachers be more cognizant of wasting electricity and to turn off lights when not needed. We will extend this campaign to the home and ask students and parents to "Be Wise and Save the Light".

Project: Rebuilding and Redesigning our Playground
Goal/purpose of the project: To rid our playground of equipment made of decaying and splintering wood with new, safe playground equipment. The new equipment will provide physical fitness stations with a natural environment for play.

Outdoor Skills
Project: 5th grade Sky Ranch Trip
Goal/purpose of the project:
*To develop each student's awareness and knowledge of their natural environment
*To develop respect for and the desire to preserve and protect their natural environment
*Students will be taking 4 classes: Limnology, Forces of Nature, Sky Ranch Expeditions, Ranch Life
Participants: 5th grade students, parents, teachers

Project start date:Units of study will be presented in the months before the trip.

Nutrition & Healthy Eating
Project: Days of Taste at the Dallas Farmers Market
Goal/purpose of the project: The Days of Taste is a discovery-based program for 4th and 5th grade students to learn about food and how it weaves its way through daily life from the farm to the table.
Days of Taste fulfills the tenets of The American Institiute of Wine and Food's mission:We enhance quality of life through education about what we eat and drink.
Objectives:
*To build a food and nutrition vocabulary
*To learn about locally grown foods
*To experience and compare tastes
*To develop "taste memories"
*To provide social food experiences around the table
*To provide a foundation for children to make healthy/nutritious food choices
*To introduce the basic concepts of food safety and sanitation
*To establish a connection between classroom lessons and careers related to the food industry

Budget/finances: $240.00 for transportation paid by students

Fitness & Physical Education
Project: Kramer Field Day 2013
Goal/purpose of the project: To celebrate the end of the year with a fun day full of physical activity that includes running relays and dashes, rock climbing, bounce houses. balancing events, water events and coordination events. PTA will run a healthy concession stand.

Budget/finances: Field day t-shirts are sold to raise money for any materials needed for each event. PTA sells healthy concessions to raise additional money.
Project start/end date: Physical activities are taught and practiced from the first day of school until Field Day. Field Day will be held on May 24, 2013

Project: Insect/Butterfly Survey
Goal/purpose of the project: Students will visit our butterfly garden 4 times during the month of April to observe and record the type and number of insects/butterflies they see. The information will be graphed and compared to other classes that will visit the different gardens on our campus.

*To remind students on a daily basis of their responsibilities to preserve and protect our environment

*To remind students to be healthy and to make nutritious food choices
