Hand Held GPS devices

By:

As a part of our unit on Weather, students used hand held GPS devices to find a variety of weather instruments around campus.  On the first day of the activity students learned how to use the GPS devices.  On day two, students worked in groups of 4 (2 GPS devices per partner pair with a parent volunteer) to find weather related instruments around campus including an anemometer, rain guage, thermometer, hygrometer, etc based on GPS coordinates. Students took instrument measurements, tracked latitude and longitude and reviewed metric measurement units (degrees C).
