Jacob's Big Day

Story
: You are a man named Jacob. You are trying to win Olympic events and in order to do so, you must train and eat healthy.

Objective: To make good eating choices and exercise to beat the other sprites in the Olympic events.

Audience: People of all ages

Team Members: Darrick S.

Lesson: Healthy eating is important for your body to grow and function. Many people in the world do not know how many calories are in everyday foods, which makes it more difficult for them to become strong and healthy and be more successful in their daily lives. Exercise also plays an important role in nutrition and making your body healthy. In order to lose weight and become strong you must balance out the calorie consumption and exercising because doing too much of either one would be unhealthy and would not help you grow. In order to balance out both of these, you must eat and exercise proportionally each day/week.

Level 1: The tried-and-true advice for healthful eating also applies to keeping your energy level high: eat a balanced diet that includes a variety of unrefined carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, with an emphasis on vegetables, whole grains, and healthy oils.

Level 2: When it comes to maintaining a healthy weight for a lifetime, the bottom line is – calories count! Weight management is all about balance—balancing the number of calories you consume with the number of calories your body uses or "burns off."

Level 3: "Eat your fruits and vegetables." You've likely heard this statement since childhood. Research shows why it is good advice: Healthy diets rich in fruits and vegetables may reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases.

  • Fruits and vegetables also provide essential vitamins and minerals, fiber, and other substances that are important for good health. Most fruits and vegetables are naturally low in fat and calories and are filling.
