NC Aboretum - Terrific Trees

By:

This was a trip we took to the NC arboretum for their "Terrific Trees" program where the children learned how to identify many local tree varieties.

Investigating more about three characteristics.

Looking to see what species of animals can grow on or near trees in western North Carolina.

The results were that students wrote down what trees they could identify, learned the role they play in the ecosystem, the shapes of the leaves, what flowers the trees may have, their habitat and size.  This tied in with our first grade curriculum via increasing math skills (addition, subtraction, measuring), science skills to identify different tree species, and we tied this in with our language arts curriculum as students needed to use their writing skills to document their results.
