Energy Conservation Awareness

Our campus is taking many steps to conserve energy. We have many new features that have been added to the over 50 years-old building we all work in. The windows have been retrofitted with low-E rated fixtures. The light bulbs are all new low-E bulbs which some are connected to switches which are actively turned off by those teachers and staff who have the ability to do so to conserve. All the computers on campus have been upgraded to more energy efficient equipment and some of the faculty and staff is turning off their computers over night and weekends to eliminate power usage. We all work to keep the windows and doors to the outside closed or open when appropriate so as to conserve HVAC usage.
In the culinary arts section, I have purposefully taken many steps to make energy conservation. We wash dishes manually as often as possible. We have new Energy Star washer and dryer for laundry. We use more gas than electricity in or equipment usage. We use our hands with our production instead of electric tools.
