Kindergarten Recycling and use of worms

By:

City of Plano Environmental Education department came to Wyatt on Tuesday,
May 14th at 1:30 to do a recycling program for kindergarten.  They two presenters demonstrated what was recyclable and what was not.  They also went into the use of compost and worms.

The kindergarten teachers have been raising worms in the classroom since last Fall to use the castings in the garden.  Kindergartners get to feed the worms periodically.  A garden mom put some of the castings and worms in the garden about a month ago. The students were so excited to see the worms in action.

Their bed had also been enhanced with Bokashi composting where micro-organisms break down the organic matter in an anaerobic process prior to being buried for nutrients in the soil.
