Butterfly and insect observations and Butterfly Fe

By:

The 2nd grade received caterpillars and each child was allowed to keep one in a container at their desk and watch the metamorphosis from larva, to pupa, to butterfly.  Approximately 130 students observed butterflied and created insect models of reusable materials.  We had a butterfly festival to celebrate our learning, show off our insect models which many were made from recycled or repurposed materials, and then finally to release the butterflys in the school garden.  The students learned about habitats, and the purpose for preserving animal habitats during the unit.  Families and other students were invited to view the models.  Parents were invited to attend the festival.
