POWER OF ONE Assembly

Power of ONE Assembly
As an end-of-year Environmental Awareness Program, our PTA Environmental Chair partnered with two 5th grade Junior Girl Scouts trying to earn their Bronze Award. The main premise was to show that ONE person can make a difference!
Their project consisted of making 600 bracelets with sea creature charms and green/blue thread to represent the Earth. Each student and staff member received one. The team also got the City of Plano to donate 60 canvas bags to donate to teachers and staff. They wrote a letter which they placed inside the bag to remind teachers and staff to 'lead by example' and start with a single action: plastic bag reduction.
The girls also organized a workshop where each of the girls in their troop drew their favorite animal and together made a collage to donate to the school as a good-bye gift. The collage will serve to remind students to love and care for animals (who don't trash). This art piece was presented to the principal at the assembly.
Also at the assembly, they presented a PowerPoint inspired by their trip to Sea World (www.seaworldcares.com) in giving tips to take care of the oceans and waterways. To finish off, they had everyone recite the Pledge of Allegiance to the Earth and played the tune of "I've got the Power!"
