September 2012

• Began a set of training/activities that introduced zero-waste MIS program to staff and students.
  

• Nutrition and healthy habits assembly "Local food, local veggies"
  

 

October 2012

Formalized upcycling brigades at both campuses

Launched the Community Supported Agriculture program with 20 Magellan families & Green Gate Farms

Introduced farming activities for students at Fall Festival.

 

 

 

November 2012

Health hands-on lesson for PP4 students to introduce local food.

First MIS Green Team Happy Hour for Green Team families at In.gridents.

Students and parents joined Zero-waste tour at the store and learned about community food gardens.

 

December 2012

Nutrition and Healthy habits workshop for parents

January 2013

Presentation of the curricular connection of 4 units of inquiry with sustainability school projects

Launched the MIS Coffee Blend!

Formalized partnership with Texas Coffee Traders, who certify 100% organic and fair-trade “Magellan Blend”

 

 

February 2013

Students performed a waste audit

Launched system to measure waste diversion with the support of Texas Disposal System and the City if Austin.

Formalized volunteer maintenance program for  food garden.

March 2013

Joined energy efficiency program in collaboration with Pecan Street Project.

Developed criteria to help MIS promote healthy nutrition habits during snack and lunch time.

April 2013

Earth month activities at MIS:

o   Green family day, gardening activities

o   Earth Day assembly both campuses

o   International Green Fest
