Pathways Gardens!
By:
Pathways Community School of the Multnomah Educations Service District provides instruction, guidance and learning experiences at our school garden during the year of 2012-13! Students were able to expand upon their understanding of core concepts and subjects, while gaining hands-on experiences and observations! Students learned and experienced preparing soil, planting seeds, checking sprouts and plants for moisture content, fertilizing plants, noting growth progress, identifying harvest times, measuring rain barrel input and outputs, collecting water from rain barrels and maintaining the rain barrel functions!
Additionally, students took the knowledge and experiences gained and shared them with other students and community persons in this spring's MESD Science Fair! Organized by Functional Life Skills Transitions (18-21 years old) teacher, Jared Ramsey, the Science Fair allowed students to showcase their interests and success' in the Pathways garden! Using displays and actual plants, these students taught and demonstrated to others their personal projects.
