Earth Week - Seeds for Sale
By:
This year we decided to celebrate Earth Week instead of Earth Day. Of course, "Every day is Earth Day at Kramer!" Every day we pick up trash, recycle, weed, plant and harvest in our many gardens around the school and work to be good stewards of our planet. During Earth Week, we sold packets of seeds to our students to encourage them to start gardens at home. We sold approximately 350 packets of seeds. One mother, Jennifer Burks, said her child, Ruby, was so inspired that she had her dad build a vegetable bed outside of her bedroom window. Ruby is on her way to growing veggies for her family. We also sold rain barrels and reusable canvas shopping bags. In all, we raised about $1,000 for our garden fund.
Besides the packets of seeds that were donated to our school, we also sold seeds that we had harvested from some of our flower and vegetable plants.
Students also donated money to purchase perennial plants to add to our gardens around the school. We added some to our front garden and also to 4 new gardens by the gym, the playground, our portable classroom area and near the vegetable garden. You can see these gardens in our Kramer Gardens Update project.
On Earth day, our principal, Ms. Harris, surprised the staff with Earth Day cookies she cleverly crafted in her kitchen. Teachers were greeted with a cookie in their mailbox. They were out of this world.
We had a Fantastic Earth Week celebration!
