Healthy Living and Green PD for Staff

At the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, the Simon Staff created collective committments. One of the collective committments was to be positive role models for our students. With that being said, we knew we were going to be teaching our students about healthy and green living, so we committed to being a role model for both. Our staff watched two videos (Latino Childhood Obesity-Short Film and Triune: Matt Pope, Man on a Journey) and committed to not eating or drinking sugar products in front of our students and also eat a balanced diet in front of them.

Next staff participated in an activity to learn how to use the EcoStations in their classrooms. They each had items that they had to pick if it went in trash, compost or recycle and actually go up and placed it in the container and the staff voted if they were correct.

 This year we had at leasst half of our staff committ and follow a diet and excercise plan. Our school was also number 1 in reculycing and composting in our district.
