Green Heroes
By:
Students were asked to be "Green Heroes" at our district's Outdoor Learning Center field trip. We had to think of ways we could pack an earth friendly lunch with little to no waste. Prior to the field trip, the students learned what it meant to recycle, reduce and reuse to keep our earth clean.
We brainstormed ideas on how to pack an earth friendly lunch:
reusable water bottles
reusable containers for food (not baggies)
Reusable silverware
cloth napkins
lunch boxes (not paper sacks)
The students were successful in their planning for an earth friendly lunch because with a total of 120 students and 30 adults, we had less than a pound of trash!
As a follow up project, the students wrote about how they were "Green Heroes" at the OLC and how they can continue to be "Green Heroes" everyday. We are all more aware of recycling, reducing and reusing!
The students also planted trees for the OLC property and vegetable seeds to grow vegetables for area food pantries. The students learned valuable lessons on how taking care of the earth can help others.
