Justin Running Club

With more video games and less time spent in outside play, the PE teacher at Justin Elementary noticed many of her older students were out of shape in size and physical fitness. She talked with a few parents on our district's health advisory council about engaging ways to introduce kids to a healthy lifestyle.
A parent and the PE assistant decided to offer an after school fitness club with 4th and 5th graders. The Justin Fitness Club met two times per week, after school from 3:00 - 3:45 pm. The club was advertised and open to all students in those grade levels.
The Justin Fitness Club started each meeting with stretches and warm up exercises. The group would run laps around the school and then built up to running miles.
The club had two major goals to work towards this year; running a one mile or a 5K in the Reindeer Romp and participating in a Color Run at the end of the school year.
The Justin Running Club enjoyed their new healthy lifestyle ending the year with a homemade "Color Run".
