What would we do without our volunteers! We wanted to honor Megan Benanti, a parent volunteer and our Whole Foods Community Partners, Maria Whitworth, Marketing Team Leader and Lacey Baxter, a Healthy Food Specialist for their hard work and dedication, so we nominated them for volunteers of the year. They were all finalists. Megan was a finalist for Outstanding Parent Volunteer for the year, and the Whole Foods Team was a finalist for Outstanding Community Partner for the year.

Megan Benanti, a Master Gardener, has worked tirelessly for the last 4 years with Cathy Southwick, the garden teacher, to help rebuild gardens around the school. She is also eager to lend a helping hand and has recruited other master gardeners to sponsor the Little Sprouts Garden Club once a week as an after school enrichment club.

Maria Whitworth has worked closely with our PTA all year. She was at our 4th of July celebration with healthy snacks and food. Whole Foods has also donated food for the staff at special events and celebrations.

Lacey Baxter and Allison Edwards have visited our school once a month to share their knowledge of healthy eating with all of our students PreK-5th grade. Students have learned to try new fruits and vegetables. They know leafy greens added to a healthy smoothie gives you more vitamins and minerals. They know how to make healthy smoothies and pizzas and have shared that information with their parents because they want to make them at home.  Lacey also attended our Passport to Health Fair to show parents alternate recipes for healthy desserts.

We are so grateful for all the time and effort these wonderful women give to our students and staff at Arthur Kramer Elementary.
