Giant Manatees

By:

by Rick, age 8

[image] boaters

Manatees live in the ocean, but they are not fish. They are giant mammals that can get to be 300 feet long and weigh up to 1300 pounds. They like the warm water in Captiva harbor so they they come here alot.

I think they are really cool to watch because they can stay underwater for a really long time. If you want to take a picture you have to be patient.

If you have a boat you need to read the rules and be really careful so you don't run over a manatee or hurt one with your motor. They have signs that tell you what to do so it is safe.
