Trash Bash 2015
On Saturday, April 18, 2015, the City of Melbourne held a Keep Brevard Beautiful Trash Bash. Ascension Catholic School (ACS) was one of many local schools that hosted in this wonderful event. Over 52 volunteers gathered together to participate. Many were students from ACS, members of the Knights of Columbus, and members from the Airman Leadership School from Patrick Air Force Base.
The City of Melbourne provides all the materials necessary to make this event happen. Safety vest, t-shirts, trash grippers, gloves, sunscreen, clipboards, pens, trash bags, and flyers annoucning the event to post around our school. Refreshments are also provided: apples, bananas, granola bars, and plenty of bottled water. Donuts were donated by Krispy Creme. The volunteers pick up trash in a one mile area around our school. We collected 30 bags of trash in 2 hours.
This years theme is Drive it home. A local student designed the picture on the t-shirt that each volunteer received. The rewards of participating in a program like this include: making a difference in the communtiy, connecting with others, good for the mind and body, brings fun and fullfillment to your life, and helping the environment.
All together there were over 500 hundred volunteers across Brevard county and close to 10,000 pounds of litter collected in just a few hours.
