Earth Week Celebration 2015
Take a Stand and Lend a Hand
Ascension Catholic School celebrated Earth Week during the week of April 20th. The year's theme was "Take a Stand and Lend a Hand". Students participated in Earth Day acitivities throughout the week. They created beautiful works of art using recycled items brought in from home, they were encouraged to pack waste free lunches, discussed the importance of recycling, volunteered for the Trash Bash clean up, and saved energy by using lights only as needed.
This year's display consisted of green and blue people cut outs. The cut outs were distrubted to all classes and students wrote or drew a picture about how they can "Take a Stand and Lend a Hand" to help keep our Earth green and clean. The cut outs were displayed in the hallways. Many bulletin boards had awesome Earth Day displays as well.
Students in PreK-3 and VPK enjoyed a presentation on recycling by Miss Erin from the City of Melbourne. RC the recycle cat (an 8th grade student volunteered to wear costume) was on hand to help encourage the students to recycle. Students received handouts, a coloring page and teachers received a reusable bag made from recycled plastic. Miss Erin played fun games to help the students learn the importance of recyclilng.
