4th Grade Owl Pellet Lab
By:
In this lesson, students spent time studying habitats, food chains, and food webs. Teachers focused on the environmental impact of changing an animal’s habitat. Following the lesson, students had an opportunity to dissect an owl pellet. The purpose of this lesson was to give students an opportunity to learn about the food chain/web while they dissect an owl pellet.
The entire 4th grade participated in this science activity, along with the 4th grade teachers from May 18- May 22.
The 4th grade students at our school had a wonderful time participating in a science activity dissecting owl pellets. The students were able to relate what they learned about the food web, to what they found in the owl pellet. Students examined possible environmental changes in the owl’s habitat, discussed how changes effect the owl’s food web, and brainstormed ways to be environmentally responsible.
