Eco-Rise Youth Innovations Curriculum K-12: Profes

January 25, 2016, Eco-Rise Youth Innovations came to Bryker Woods Elementary School for 6 hours of professional development. The initial 6 hours is an "Eco-Launch"; training for selected teachers to learn, engage, and lead by example to teachers throughout their teams.
Our goal for Eco-Rise training is to create the following:

- 1. A Capstone Project for 5-6th graders as some 6th graders do leave our school to attend a middle school magnet program or to start middle school at 6th grade
2. 5-6th grade Student-Led Campus Environmental Audits completed yearly as well as projects created to address each issue from the audit.
3. Implementation of Eco-Rise curriculum within all K-6 grade levels as well as alignment of current curriculum with Eco-Rise curriculum

About Eco-Rise Youth Innovations:
EcoRise Youth Innovations enlivens conventional classrooms with standards-aligned k-12 curricula that introduce students to ENVIRONMENTAL LITERACY, SOCIAL INNOVATION and HANDS-ON DESIGN SKILLS. Through a project-based learning approach, youth are empowered to tackle real-world challenges in their schools and communities and create innovative solutions in the areas energy, water, waste, transportation, air quality, food and public spaces. EcoRise provides the following services to teachers, schools, and districts across the world: Teach, Grow, Connect, Impact.
- TEACH: Standards-aligned, project-based K-12 curriculum content and educator resources focused on environmental literacy, social innovation, and hands-on design skills.
- GROW: Multi-modal, ongoing professional development that cultivates a professional learning community and supports teachers in confidently implementing program.
- CONNECT: Facilitated connections with green STEM professionals who provide project mentorship and introduce students to green career pathways.
- IMPACT: Funding opportunities to support students in bringing green campus projects to fruition.
- The multidisciplinary nature of the EcoRise program makes it versatile and valuable for many teachers. EcoRise is particularly well-suited to strengthen and compliment STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) and CTE (Career and Technical Education) courses, by offering interactive opportunities to apply knowledge and develop 21st century skills such as critical thinking, technology, collaboration and leadership.
WHO IS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY?
- Teachers, campus administrators, or club advisors at a K-12 public or private school
- Campuses that complete an audit this spring (prior to April 3) or campuses that have completed an audit in the past 12 months
WHAT TYPES OF PROJECTS ARE FUNDED?
- Campus Improvement Projects: Student designed projects that can be executed within grant timeframe & reduce the campus environmental footprint in audit area (ex. rainwater garden, recycling program).
- Public Awareness Campaigns & Demonstration Projects: Student designed PSA’s, videos, websites, apps, info-graphics, and electronic and print marketing materials to raise awareness and promote environmental consciousness in audit area and/or student designed demonstration/pilot projects and prototypes that promote sustainability in audit area (ex. aquaponics systems, solar demonstration project).

- Learning expeditions directly related to project
* Note: Campuses may submit multiple projects for funding, however total campus funding is limited to $2,000 per school year. Campuses in the Austin area may only request up to $500 per project, with a total campus limit of $2,000. Smaller requests are also accepted.
