Cardboard Challenge

Cardboard Challenge
Schools produce alot of waste because of the volume of paper and materials that are ordered and used by students, teachers, and cafeteria staff. The GT students at Justin Elementary were challenged to collect ALL of the cardboard boxes that our school used in one week (42 boxes) and then create a game or costume for the school Fall Festival.
These 15 gifted and talented students learned about the properties of cardboard when figuring out ways to cut, bend, and combine pieces of cardboard. All materials were recyclable or common household such as cardboard, paper, tape, string, or glue.
Students had to continue testing and analzying how the cardboard worked for their game. How much weight would this space car hold and/or would it break apart if pushed from the back?
The Cardboard Challenge allowed the GT students to demonstrate for our school community that you can have fun and play games without purchasing fancy equipment and expensive materials.
