Galveston Fun!

In 7th grade science, the students have a variety of opportunities to have outdoor environmental experiences during their 7th grade trip to Galveston, Texas . The objective of the field trip is to allow the student to experience the natural beauty and diversity of life in the ecosystem of the Galveston State Park. Students do a nature walk along the Gulf of Mexico and learn about the variety of animals along the coast and the importance of preventing litter, especially plastic from entering this system. The students collect shells and compare/contrast the similarities of different mollusks. On the bay side of the Texas state park, the students seine for small invertebrates and fish in the marsh estuary and learn about the importance of protecting these natural nurseries. The students go for a marsh walk and learn about the diversity of plants and their importance in this ecosystem. The students also have the opportunity to study sharks and crabs with professionals from the Texas A & M University at Galveston. Students learn the importance of protecting all species and how all species are dependent upon each other.
