Project Title: Rocking Along
Rocking Along!
By:
Using hands-on methods of collecting rocks and finding fossils, 2nd grade students learn about the different types of rocks, how they were formed, and learn to sort them by recognizable characteristics. We have the children sort through the rocks within our environment (mainly on our playground), but also at home, on camp-outs, when they are playing outside with friends, or whenever they are out in nature exploring and then they put them in our science center. We also discuss that when you are outside you are surrounded by science---the only thing you need is good observational skills.
The children have also found sharks' teeth which has led to many discussions about the fact that Dallas a long time ago was under the sea.
