The Debbie Brink Atrium
Dedicated Fall 2010
The Debbie Brink Atrium provides Doss students, parents, teachers and staff a quiet, calm and peaceful outdoor space, within the central confines of the school, to work, think, read and reflect. The atrium is lovingly maintained and enhanced by student, parent, and teacher volunteers.
Debbie Brink Atrium
An exciting new endeavor at Doss this year is the revamping of the Debbie Brink Atrium in the heart of the school. We plan to bring it new life so everyone can enjoy this very special place. The atrium was dedicated this past year to our dear teacher and friend, Debbie Brink, who passed away this summer after a courageous battle with cancer. Many of you knew Ms. Brink, but for our families that did not, Ms. Wiley, fourth grade teacher and friend of Debbie’s, shares some about her:
“She was a beloved 4th and 2nd grade teacher at Doss. Everyone who knew her loved her. She moved to Austin from Florida with her daughter, Kelly, and husband, Bill Brink, in 1999. She spent 7 years teaching fourth grade, and then she moved down to second grade for 4 years. She loved teaching kids of all ages--from preschool to 5th grade, and she was good with any age. Teaching was her passion and she was a natural. She was a cheerleader for Doss and for each of her students. She believed that all students could achieve, and she treated each and every one of them with love and respect. She was Doss’ teacher of the year several years back.
Debbie loved gardening and flowers, and she liked to spend her free time organizing parents for planting and beautification projects out by the portables, where her room was. The dedication of the atrium is such a fitting tribute to a truly special person. It is in the ‘heart’ of the school, and Debbie is in so many people’s hearts.”
