Jarboe Bayou Field Trip

By:

We are fortunate that our school is within walking distance to Jarboe Bayou, which is perfect for this natural classroom activity.   We visited the park with different grade levels three times this year.

The teaching points we worked from:
The characteristics of animals help them live in their environment.
Animals depend on other living things to survive.
Animals depend on non-living things in order to survive.

We had three activities: a food chain game, a nature walk, an observation station.  For the observations we collected living and non-living specimens from the land and water (which were returned at the end of the day) and the kids recorded their observations in their Science Journal and wrote about how the park/habitat met their needs.
