Mission statement:
The mission of the Habitat Club is to give students experiences with nature that help them develop an appreciation and respect for living things. The students work on projects that benefit the whole Stewart community.
They plant and care for two areas with native plants. They also plant and care for vegetable and herb gardens. As we were preparing the gardens for Spring planting, we discovered new tomato plants that had grown from last year's tomato plants - a full life cycle! We ended up with 5-6 healthy, productive tomato plants. This was a special experience for the kids, but it also benefited all of 3rd grade, since learning about the life cycle of the tomato plant is part of their science curriculum.
Other activities:
- Planting new rose bushes in the front of the school.
- Creating and maintaining a bulletin board with "Earth Friendly" news and pictures.
- Collecting paper to be recycled from all of the classrooms in the school.
- Gathering used ink cartridges and mailing them in for recycling.
