Students eat veggies!
By:
The students truly enjoyed their time outside working with planting, weeding, observing, and finally harvesting and eating the produce they had helped grow. They were able to observe the plant life cycle. They got a better idea of where their food in the supermarket comes from. Children enjoyed trying new foods, including sugar snap peas and Swiss chard. Some students did not want to try some of these new foods, but when they observed their peers eating and enjoying these new vegetables, they decided to try them out. A little salad dressing for dipping helped some students be willing to try some of the new veggies. Our school was fortunate to have the Food for Thought Program's help with this project. Watering was done with an automatic drip system, which was very helpful.
