Healthy Lifestyles for Junior High Students!
By:
Students at Matilija School learned about the value of daily fitness. They also learned how so many cars traveling in our small town affect air quality and safety on the roadways for pedestrians and bicylists. Students prepared in advance for bike and walk to school day by learning bike and pedestrian safety tips and why safety gear (helmets) are important. The event in October created a lot of excitement for students, teachers, and parents, and many students continued to ride their bikes throughout the year. Students also learned about what is in their food. The food services staff is now serving a "hot meal cooked from scratch" choice every day in their cafeteria, and the selections are popular with students. After watching the film Food, Inc. many students reported a stronger desire to read food labels and make better choices in what they are eating.
