Green Print of the Outdoor Classroom (Natural Classrooms)

  • Schuylerville School District will create an outdoor classroom for education and learning.
  • The purpose of this activity is to enhance the learning environment, supplement existing curriculum and peak students’ curiosity of the outside world.
  • This outdoor classroom will foster involvement between students, staff, parents and community members.  Students, staff and parents/community members will help create and maintain the space.
  • The outdoor classroom will be recorded through photographs and student writings/projects.
  • The budget for this activity is projected at an initial cost of $5000.   The annual maintenance cost is projected at $500/year.
  • Currently, the plans are to create the space in the spring of 2012.

Green Print of the Locker Clean-out (Eco-Campus)

  • Schuylerville Schools will clean out the student’s lockers at the conclusion of the school year.
  • The purpose of this activity is to ensure that all items in the lockers are properly disposed and recycled.  Objects will be recycled, reused, repurposed or thrown away.
  • The students, faculty, staff and GRS volunteers will be involved in this activity.
  • This activity will be recorded with photographs and be measured by percentages (i.e. the % of objects thrown away vs. % of objects recycled) to provide a benchmark for future clean-outs.
  • The budget for this activity is $200. 
  • The locker clean-out will occur in the final weeks of school, June 2012.

Green Print of the Elementary School Health Fair (Health and Fitness)

  • Schuylerville Elementary School will host a Health Fair.
  • The purpose of this activity is to educate Schuylerville Elementary School children, their families and the greater community on health, fitness and wellness related topics.
  • The Parents and Education Partners (PEP) will host the health Fair. Approximately 25 vendors will display information related to health, fitness and wellness.
  • This activity will be recorded with photographs, news articles and a follow-up piece in the monthly PEP newsletter.
  • The budget for this activity is $400.  These monies will be used for promotional materials and the operation game handout.  The vendors will operate and fund their own booths.
  • The Health Fair is slated for Oct. 21st 2011 from 5:30pm – 8:30pm.  It is anticipated to be an annual event.

Green Print of the Butterfly Garden (Nature Adventure)

  • Schuylerville Elementary School will create a butterfly garden on the edge of the vegetation to attract butterflies and to provide them with nourishment and a place to rest.
  • The purpose of this activity is to enhance the existing curriculum within the elementary School.
  • With the guidance of the Green Ribbon school committee and the sponsorship of a local Girl Scout troop, the students and teachers of the elementary school will be involved.
  • The butterfly garden will be recorded through photographs and student projects.
  • The budget for this activity is $200. 
  • The activity will begin in the fall with the collection of seeds and will continue with the planting in the spring of 2012.
