Roots of Respect

Roots of Respect
Narrator :
The prince is walking through the woods.
Magically the plants and trees open and lead the prince right to
Princess Aurora. The plants have been
the only living eye witnesses over the last 100 year. They pass the word
quickly.
Thorny: Yo! Like- move out of the way. It’s the prince, dudes, here to wake up
our lad-ey, Princess Aurora.
(Other
plants cooperate and dance aside, smiling and proud.)
Princess A.: Hazah! I awake! Speaketh, handsome man. Are you my prince?
Prince: (very startled at the odd way she
talks) Yes…., Aurora, it has been
100
years.
My name is Philip. (He bows)
Princess A: Darest you speak so boldly?
Thorny: Not to worry, sweet lady, I’ve been
guardin you for 100 years….a full
cent-ur-ee. Time to
“get down” and par-tay! I am the
main event.
Princess A: (thoroughly confused) Gettith
down? Down where? (Hides behind
the prince)
Phil Family: Cool it, Thorny, we’ve been chillin
the same hundred years! Our long
vines kept that girl in
the shade. We are the super-heros.
Aloe:
No, No
No (nasal voice) I administered my healing
lotion to
keep her skin looking young. Oy.
Imagine what 100 years does to
the skin!
Kalanchoe: Skin shmin: I surrounded her with flowers so the prince
could find
her. She would have
looked (whispers) ug-ly without my blooms.….I
am the only plant here
that blooms, clearly the center
attraction. (Princess mouthes “Ugly”)
Setcreasea: Flowers only bloom for
a short while…I am my beautiful purple self all year long. I can take the heat! (Speaks directly to the princess.) I stayed
in the sun, so I could be your–Number 1.
Begonias and Syngonium: (Choosing to get the Princess’s
attention with a rap song.)
We may be shy and softly bending,
Love the sun or love the
shade.
Versatility in action
To impress our fair young maid.
(Does a split)
Princess A:
Bravo, Bravo. I comprehendeth.
You have been awaketh whilst I
slept. A hero’s duty all! I taketh a specimen from each, roots to
groweth. Hence forth your kin shall live forever in
my “Pot of
Admiration” How dull my pot would be with only one hero!
Prince: (Prince noticing the trouble the
plants were having with the way she
talks.) What the Princess is saying is that she now
understands that
you all have been caring for her…That you all have been sort of her
personal “Green Team,” so
she took a cutting from each of you. She
will put them in water
and when the roots have grown, she will plant
all of you together in a place of
honor. (Plants like the idea)
I do agree with her
other observation.
Philodendron Family: What’s That?
Prince: Life would be dull if we all were
alike. (Thinks; smiles) I thinketh I will
hence forth, and findeth my
bride.
All Plants
Yeah, yeah. (sing together)
We are we
are the Green Team, Green Team.
We are we
are the Green Team, Green Team
Aloe: Wait! We are going to need a special ending to
this story! How can we live
in the same planter?
I can’t take too much water. You all
need lots of water.
Philodendron Family: And we need protection from the sun
Setcreasea and Kalanchoe: Yeah we need lots more sun than you.
Begonias and Syngonium: We like more sun than you Phil, but if we get
too much sun we burn up
All: There must be a way that we all can live together!
