Demo day of Salad Bar
By:
On April 11, the cafeteria allowed our group to do a salad bar demo. They wanted to see how they would set it up next year and the amount of produce needed for the school. This year they did not have enough cafeteria staff so our group volunteered to help. We chopped vegetables, sliced meat, and cut eggs. Before each lunch started, we cut up all the salad and prepared the toppings. Some topping options included: ham, turkey and bacon bits, cucumbers, eggs, cheese, tomatoes, carrots, broccoli, and black olives. The salad bar was a great success! Many students purchased it. Approximently 1/6th of the students and staff purchased the salad bar that day. It definitely surpassed our expectations; we were very satisfied because there was the lunchline side salad as competitor. We were also able to educate people about the salad bar. We explained why iceburg lettuce was not as good for you as spinach or romaine lettuce. There were many compliments from the staff and students. All our hard work made us feel good that we were making a mark on Ritter that will hopefully impact many people. We are one step closer to making Ritter a healthier school!
