Plant a Garden
By:
Hutsell Elementary understands that the best way for children to understand concepts is to actually be involved in their learning by doing! Reviewing our practices as a staff led to switching our annual Plant-A-Flower day to having 7 garden beds installed for growing fruits and vegetables. We were excited that Allgreen Assoc. donated gardening soil and Kingsland Baptist Church sent a crew of 40 to not only load the soil into the grade level planting beds, but also created a butterfly garden not too far from our gardens. In the next few weeks our students will be engaged in planting gardens to harvest a few months from now. This experience is planned to not only see the process of plant growth, but foster inquiring questions that students can build experiments around, as well as embed the science curriculum into other content areas.
