An Activity Is Worth A Thousand Words

By:

The students learned many different concepts during this short 20-minute lesson. They learned about landfills, different kinds of waste, decomposition, and composting.

The things we would do differently next year would be to introduce this concept early in the year so that the students could use the bin daily.  We also felt that having pictures on the bin to remind the students what goes inside it, as well as giving them pictures to color and take with them might help to bring the concept home.

Overall, if you have a compost bin, it turned out to be an easy lesson that can have a big impact for children and the Earth.
