Rock in nature

By:

Our students observed and described rocks by size, texture, and color. They learned about the role of rocks in nature, they listened to our eco-teachers read a book about rocks, they observed rocks that were part of a rock collection that two community members brought to our school to share with students. Students chose a rock from a selection of rocks that were outside that were provided by their teachers and used a link called "Be a Rock Hound" on the National Wildlife Federation site for ideas for what to do with their rock. Student self selected rock hound activity.
