TDS and Fuentes partnership

Fuentes Elementary was chosen by Texas Disposal Systems as a model school for thier single stream recycling initiative. We kicked off the initiative with a staff fieldtrip to TDS. On january 3rd our entire staff went to TDS and toured the landfill, the single stream recycling facility and the wildlife management ranch as a day of professional development. Staff members were educated about the process and provided materials and information for their students. The first week of February our recycling bins, color coded trash cans for the cafeteria and our dumpsters arrived. We held info and educational sessions during lunch with the help of TDS, district personnel and campus staff so that all students could consistently follow the procedures to ensure good quality recyclables and lesson our trash output. In March Fuentes Elementary helped the city of Kyle kick-off their single stream recycling project as TDS officials, City councilmen, and the Mayor visited a classroom and several local television crews filmed the story as well as local news paper coverage. We love to recycle and have drastically cut our trash as part of our ongoing environmental stewardship.
