Trash and Landfills

Students watched a video "What is a landfill and discussed the differences between trash and recylables. They participated in trash vs recyclables sorting activity, then created charts to represent the types of trash and recyclables they found in our trash can. In another lesson they made observations in our cafeteria to see what we were throwing away and adding to the landfill. Suggestions were made for big changes in our own practice at our school. Students also took one of two surveys (K-2 or 3-5) which will be used to inform our practice of responsible stewardship at Fuentes.

Survey included questions about individual condement packages vs large community pumps, reusable water bottles vs plastic disposable bottles, washable dinnerware from home vs plastic ware, and what simple changes are we willing to make to have less trash.
