Waste Free Wednesdays

By:

Every Wednesday starting November 3rd Fuentes Elementary students participated in Waste-free Wednesdays. It was and opportunity for the students to put into practice the valuable concepts they learned during their Ecoschool lessons. Students participated in lunch in a way that resulted in very little or no trash at all! Here are some of the things we did for a waste-free lunch:

Beverage supplied in a reusable container instead of boxes or pouches

Food brought in reusable containers instead of plastic bags

Silverware instead of plastic disposable tableware

Cloth napkins instead of paper

Lunchboxes or reusable insulated bags instead of paper or plastic disposable bags

Packed lunches that are "just right portions" or only what you will eat so that there are no leftovers

On Wednesdays we cut our trash by about 1/3 as reported by our custodial staff in number of trash bags used in the cafeteria.
