Garden as Classroom

By:

Our outdoor classroom, allows teachers to bring their entire class outside to do a variety standards based activities. Mrs. Briggs' first grade class read the story "Little Pea" in the reading circle. After the story, each student tasted peas and planted spinach that tied nicely to the story. Mrs. Briggs took this opportunity to discuss the nutritional value of these crops and why they make a delicious part of any meal.

Often, classrooms venture out to the garden to sit quietly and journal. Or teachers come for one on one instructional activities in our peaceful setting. There is never a dull moment in the garden, with plenty to explore and observe for both small or large groups.[image] Mrs Briggs reading Little Pea
